Today:

Any morning fog patches soon clearing to mostly cloudy conditions, although some sunny spells are likely to develop during the afternoon. Winds become light but breezy along the coast. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Becoming cloudy overnight as low cloud and fog develops in the east of the region before spreading westwards. Winds remain light. Temperatures remaining above freezing Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Wednesday:

Wednesday sees low cloud and fog slowly lifting and clearing during the morning, with some long brighter spells developing later. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Sunny spells expected Thursday before evening rain. Rain clears Friday morning, leaving further sunny spells. Saturday turns cloudy with rain and drizzle.

A broad northwest-southeast split in the weather looks the most likely scenario as we move into the second week of March. High pressure centred over continental Europe should maintain enough of an influence across southern and eastern UK to allow for a fair bit of dry and at times bright weather, whilst the majority of rain-bearing weather systems affect the northwest of the UK. Some strong winds are likely at times in the northwest. Temperatures look to be mostly near to a little above average. Towards the end of this period, there is chance that unsettled conditions in the northwest may become rather more widespread.

The slow moving pattern will probably continue for a while. Spells of rain are still possible across the west and northwest, with drier and brighter weather further east and southeast. Confidence is lower by late-March, however the blocked and slow-moving weather pattern may very well persist. The main uncertainty is whether this will lead to cyclonic and unsettled weather becoming slow moving and persistent across the UK; or continued anticyclonic pattern, which would mean more settled and perhaps colder patterns in the vicinity of the UK. In general, some rain still probable but distribution of any wetter areas is extremely low confidence. Temperatures overall near or above normal at first, with a sign of a slight downward trend through the rest of the month.
