Headline:

Sunny intervals and showers on Tuesday, some heavy.

Today:

A mix of some bright intervals interspersed with blustery showers. These becoming heavier and more persistent later, especially over Argyll, and increasingly of snow on hills. Occasional strong winds at first. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Becoming dry with clear spells for a time this evening. Overnight will turn cloudier with wintry showers spreading in from the northwest. Blustery around showers. Colder than last night Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Wednesday:

Cloudy with blustery wintry showers in the morning, which may be heavy at times. Showers easing in the afternoon to become largely dry with brighter intervals later. Feeling colder. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

A dry, bright start Thursday with light winds before rain spreads east later in the day. Frequent showers on Friday and Saturday with some bright spells and winds strengthening.

A broadly changeable pattern will continue, at least through the first part of this period, as further frontal systems move across parts of the UK, bringing rain and stronger winds at times. Weather fronts are likely to be more active across northern areas, meaning the wettest and windiest conditions are more likely here. As they come south, often running in to a ridge of higher pressure extending from the southwest, fronts will generally weaken and rainfall amounts will be smaller. This area of high pressure is likely to become increasingly dominant through the period, with more settled conditions perhaps becoming more prevalent across the UK. In this setup, temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light.

High pressure may be more dominant at the start of this period, the centre of which transferring from somewhere west or southwest of the UK to somewhere north of the UK. As such, plenty of dry weather seems most likely, but with changes in wind direction leading to some quite marked differences in cloud amounts and temperature from day to day. Moving further into April, there is a chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus there is a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to average.
