Today:

A dull and damp start to the day. However, it should become drier and brighter through the morning with a few sunny spells developing for the afternoon, although parts of Devon and Cornwall could remain cloudy. Warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

A few bright or sunny spells this evening across eastern counties, however thicker cloud already across Devon and Cornwall will become more widespread overnight, with some patchy drizzle developing later. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Wednesday:

Rather cloudy on Wednesday with further outbreaks of mostly light drizzle, mainly across the hills and moors. A more organised band of rain arriving from the northwest in the evening. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Cloud clearing early on Thursday, then fine with some sunshine. Turning unsettled over the Easter weekend with showers or longer spells of rain. Some strong and gusty winds too.

It is increasingly likely that unsettled conditions will affect the UK over the Easter Holiday weekend, with the potential for strong winds and heavy rain at times. The wettest and windiest weather is more likely towards the west and north of the country. Beyond Easter, a broad northwest-southeast split is most likely, though the extent of high pressure into southern areas is unclear. That said, northern and western parts are more likely to remain rather unsettled overall, with further spells of wind and rain, and areas further southeast should see the best of the drier, clearer interludes. Temperatures probably fairly close to average overall, but occasional warmer spells are possible in the south and east.

The broad northwest-southeast split is most likely to be in place at the start of this period. However, the middle to latter part of the month is particularly uncertain, with conflicting signals as to whether high or low pressure will be dominant, but perhaps with a reduced chance of spells of windy weather compared to earlier in the month. As such, the scenario of April showers may be the most likely set-up, though with some drier, brighter days at times. Temperatures are unlikely to deviate too far from average overall, but some warmer days are likely where light winds and sunshine combine.
