Another cold and cloudy day for most with perhaps the odd snow grain or spot of drizzle in the breeze through the morning. A few glimmers of brightness are possible. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Staying largely dry with broken cloud and clear spells with patchy mist, fog and frost forming. Probably becoming cloudy in the north and west later with showery rain and drizzle. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Monday:

Any fog patches lifting then perhaps some sunshine at times in the south. Otherwise a cloudy day with rain at times, mainly in the north. Feeling chilly. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Staying mainly dry and chilly early next week. Occasional bright spells, but often cloudy with a little rain or drizzle possible at times. Frost and fog in places overnight.

A transition to a rather more changeable and at times unsettled weather pattern is likely to occur during the first few days of this period. Outbreaks of rain and freshening winds will probably make inroads from the southwest during Thursday ahead of conditions more widely becoming wetter and windier by the weekend. A return to periods of rain followed by showers, often accompanied by strong winds looks likely for the rest of the month, with the potential for weather warnings or even a named storm at some point before the month is out. Temperatures at least should recover in most places, ending up near average or even a little above, though admittedly not feeling like it at times.

The start of February is likely to continue on an unsettled and relatively mild theme, with periods of rain, showers and strong winds, alternating in most parts with short-lived brighter and cooler interludes. Pressure may build across southern areas towards mid-month, which would result in longer drier and more-settled spells here, albeit with an increased chance of overnight fog and frost.
