    This Evening and Tonight:

    Pockets of frost forming under clear skies in the south to begin the evening, otherwise cloud building from the north allowing temperatures to recover slightly overnight. Winds strengthening during the early hours with patchy rain arriving in the north later. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

    Thursday:

    Cloudy start to New Year's Day with patchy rain. Brighter spells developing by the afternoon but also scattered wintry showers, mainly in the north. Cold in the gusty wind. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

    Sunnier spells emerging into the weekend, most prolonged in the east whilst wintry showers feed in from the west. Staying breezy and very cold with severe frosts and ice overnight.
