Today:

A wet and windy day with strong and gusty winds bringing some coastal disruption. A band of rain spreads steadily eastwards, heavy at times, though with brighter skies to follow. Remaining breezy into the afternoon, with further blustery showers. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Briefly dry and settled this evening, however cloud soon thickens from the southwest overnight, with very strong winds and heavy rain marking the arrival of Storm Éowyn. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Friday:

Wet and very windy as Storm Éowyn clears eastwards, with some heavy downpours at first. Brighter skies developing, with winds gradually subsiding, and even some afternoon sunshine, but turning chilly. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

More settled on Saturday with some sunny spells but turning widely wet and windy again on Sunday as heavy rain arrives from the southwest. Unsettled with blustery showers on Monday.

This looks like being and unsettled period across much of the country, but especially for northern and western parts. During Monday, another deep area of low pressure looks likely to move across the UK from the Atlantic, bringing wet and windy conditions to most if not all parts. Further spells of wet and windy weather look like moving east from the Atlantic to affect the UK during the rest of the period too, with drier, brighter spells in between. There is the potential for further weather warnings or even a named storm at some point. Temperatures overall are likely to end up being around or slightly above average, though wind and rain will make it feel chilly, and brief cool spells with some overnight frost are likely between weather systems.

Generally mild at first, with periods of rain, showers and strong winds alternating with short-lived brighter and cooler interludes. These may become increasingly confined to northern parts during this period though, with pressure possibly building across southern areas in particular. This would result in longer drier and more-settled spells here, albeit with an increased chance of overnight fog and frost and temperatures falling a little correspondingly.
