Turning much fresher with bright spells and showers.

Today:

A cloudy start, with outbreaks of rain sinking southeastwards. Turning drier and brighter from the west by mid-morning with plenty of dry and sunny spells. Isolated showers may form later but feeling much fresher than of late. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Showers continuing in places within the northwesterly breeze, gusty around coastal areas. Turning cloudier overnight, feeling cooler than previous nights. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Wednesday:

Winds ease through the day as they shift from a northwesterly to a wester. Showers continuing across the region, however, these will be lighter. Temperatures around average for September. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

A wet and windy day for Thursday but things starting to turn more settled again by Friday. Westerly winds develop with the odd light shower. Temperature near normal.

The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to northern and northwestern areas. As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop, whilst the bulk of the rain and possible strong winds are more likely to affect the northwest of the UK. Many areas may remain mostly settled towards the end of September, but there is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic bringing more widely unsettled conditions.

More changeable weather may become established more widely as we move into October, though parts of the west and northwest are perhaps most likely to see wet and windy conditions at times. As is not untypical as we move towards mid October, deep low pressure systems could bring occasional periods of very strong winds. Temperatures are likely to remain above normal overall, though brief cooler interludes are also possible.
