The morning will start dry and breezy with occasional bright spells. However, cloud will thicken from the southwest with wet and rather windy weather arriving by the afternoon. Some heavy rain developing. Perhaps drying up later. A mild day though. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

The evening will begin cloudy with blustery showers. It should become largely dry overnight with clear periods developing. It will stay breezy, although this should prevent a frost from forming. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Friday:

Apart from the occasional shower, mainly in the west, Friday promises to be a much drier and brighter day with sunny spells. Feeling cool due to the breeze though. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday will start bright, though it will turn windy with some rain arriving overnight. Sunday and Monday look rather cloudy with further patchy rain, although the wind will ease somewhat.

A gradual transition to more settled conditions is expected, as high pressure builds to the north of the UK and low pressure eases away to the south. This will bring a strengthening easterly wind over the Christmas period, making it feel noticeably colder than of late. Whilst there will be a fair amount of dry weather, a few showers will still be possible, particularly across eastern and southern parts which may be wintry in places, more especially over high ground. Temperatures will likely trend below average with the potential for frost, especially in the north where winds will be lighter. Towards New Year, high pressure may become centred more towards the west of the UK, allowing a greater chance of some wet weather to spread into parts of the UK.

High pressure is fairly likely to be close by to the UK at the start of this period, though its exact position is rather more uncertain. This means a continuation of predominantly settled and dry weather for many, albeit with the potential for overnight frost and fog. With colder air likely near to or over the UK, the chance of wintry hazards is higher than in previous weeks. Towards mid-month, there is the potential for rather more changeable conditions to become re-established, although confidence in this aspect of the forecast is currently low.
