The odd shower is possible at first, mainly running in through the Cheshire gap, but most areas look set to have a dry day with sunny spells. A brisk northwesterly wind will ease, and feeling pleasant enough in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

A ridge of high pressure will topple across from the west bringing a mostly dry night across the region with clear spells. Turning chilly in some rural areas. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Thursday:

Thursday will start fine with some pleasant spells of sunshine. Cloud slowly increasing from the west though with rain arriving later in the day. Becoming breezy too. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Brighter weather returns on Friday, with sunshine and occasional light showers. A spell of wind and rain is likely later on Saturday, ahead of brighter skies with showers on Sunday.

Remaining changeable, with occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic, most frequent across northern and western parts of the UK, where some strong winds will also be possible at times. However, there will also be some reasonable dry and more settled periods, especially across southern areas. Later in the month, high pressure may become more dominant in the vicinity of the UK, perhaps bringing more widely settled conditions for a time, especially away from the far north. Temperatures for the period as a whole will probably be close to average overall, but there is scope for some rather warm days at times, along with occasional relatively cool nights.

High pressure initially close to the UK, with a continuation of more settled conditions at times, may start to weaken its influence on the weather later in the month and into early October. As a result, it may become more changeable with a greater chance of rain or showers in places, and perhaps some strong winds at times too. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, with relatively cool nights possible at first tending to reduce in frequency later in the period.
