Early mist or fog patches clearing to give a largely dry and bright start to the day. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain will move southeastwards into the afternoon. Warm. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rain, locally heavy, gradually clearing southeast Wednesday. Mostly dry with sunny spells Thursday, after a chilly start. A few coastal showers. Breezier, with rain spreading east Friday. Temperatures nearer average.

It will likely be quite changeable through the middle of October, as a series of low pressure systems run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK, bringing occasional bands of rain and strong winds, but interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions. Rain will be most prevalent across hills in the west and especially northwest, where above average rainfall is likely through this period. Longer drier interludes are more favoured in sheltered southern and eastern parts, but even here it is likely to be wetter than during recent weeks. Whilst brief cooler interludes are possible, temperatures are likely to be a little above average in many areas for the period as a whole.

Late October into early November will probably maintain a changeable pattern overall with weather systems often moving in from the Atlantic. These will bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, with the wettest and windiest weather in the northwest, drier in the southeast. There is a chance that a period of more widely dry conditions could develop for a time, but confidence in the details of this is low. Temperatures will probably be above average overall.
