Tonight:

It will stay cloudy through the evening and overnight with further rain, this becoming heavy at times, particularly in the southwest through the early hours. Strengthening easterly winds. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Wednesday:

It will be another cloudy day with persistent and occasionally heavy rain, increasingly turning to snow over the hills later. Occasionally strong and gusty easterly winds. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rain, sleet and hill snow likely clearing to bright or sunny spells later Thursday. Mostly dry, sunny and cold on Friday and Saturday, some wintry showers around the coasts.

After a briefly quieter spell, associated with some colder conditions, Atlantic frontal zones look to make a return near the start of this period. The track of these depressions may be a little further north than over the preceding weeks, but will continue to bring broadly unsettled weather to many areas, with further spells of rain and perhaps strong winds at times. With the westerly influence, it should become somewhat milder for many, though there remains the chance that colder conditions could affect northern and northeastern parts from time to time.

Broadly changeable conditions are expected across the UK during this period. Low pressure systems will probably dominate, meaning showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, for much of the UK, and still the chance of some hill snow in the north. Some drier interludes are likely, though it must be said, flooding impacts remain possible given recent very wet weather. Windy conditions look probable from time to time. Temperatures probably close to or a little above average overall, with a reduced chance, compared to earlier thinking, of a late season prolonged cold spell.
