Today:

Dry to start in the south, while rain and thicker cloud affect northern areas. Cloud and rain spread southwards through the day. It will remain blustery initially, especially for exposed coasts, with winds easing later as skies clear. Unseasonably mild. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Any lingering cloud to the south will clear through the evening to leave a dry night with plenty of clear spells. Winds becoming light and turning rather cool. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Friday:

A chilly start to Friday, leading to drier and brighter day with plenty of sunny spells, although with a risk of showers throughout. Feeling noticeably cooler in the northwesterly breeze. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mostly dry with sunny spells through the weekend and into Monday. Chilly nights bring a risk of frost and patchy fog. Breezier later especially across western coasts and hills.

There are growing signs that high pressure, which is likely to still extend across the country at the start of this period, will reduce in its influence through next week. This will allow a more unsettled regime to develop as spells of wet and windy weather arrive from the Atlantic followed by drier though still showery interludes. While there is still a chance that high pressure will build near the UK again during late October, it is more likely that a changeable regime will continue once established. This would see temperature varying around average with some milder spells, especially in the south.

High pressure will probably be dominant at first with many areas fine and dry. A transition to more changeable or unsettled weather patterns is expected during the first part of November with showers or longer spells of rain becoming more likely. Temperatures are likely to be near to or above normal for the period as a whole.
