Headline:

Turning hotter next week.

Today:

A bright start this morning across the south, but rather cloudy elsewhere with rain moving into Cumbria. The cloud will spread further south throughout the morning, with some spots of rain also spreading south later in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Tonight:

A few more showers are possible this evening, with a few heavy downpours at times. Turning drier through the night with clear spells. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Monday:

Dry on Monday with plenty of sunshine and light winds. Sunshine will turn a little hazy later in the afternoon. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Largely dry with sunny spells over the next few days, and perhaps the odd shower. Turning increasingly hot and more humid later in the week.

Something of a north to south split to start the period. Some rain or showers are likely in the north whilst it will be predominantly dry, sunny and hot in the south. The heat in the south will likely ease into next weekend but probably remain a little above average. Further into August high pressure will likely become more widely dominant leading to settled conditions for most. There are signs that low pressure systems or thundery interludes will interrupt this at times, but rainfall amounts will probably be variable, with some areas continuing to see relatively little. Temperatures are likely to remain above average, with a chance of a return of the hot conditions seen earlier in the period.

The broad theme of high pressure remaining in place at least close to the UK seems most probable, but with occasional more unsettled or changeable interludes. These interludes will either be the result of Atlantic frontal systems moving east or thundery plumes possibly drifting north from the continent. The broadly settled conditions mean that rainfall amounts overall are more likely to be below normal than above. Temperatures will probably be above average and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
