Mainly dry and cloudy day, chance of some brightness later.

Today:

Some brightness across the east this morning. Otherwise a mostly dry and rather cloudy day with the odd light shower this morning. A few bright spells may develop by late afternoon. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

This evening will be dry with some late brightness. Then the rest of the night will be largely dry but some rain spreading into Galloway later. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Thursday:

Outbreaks of rain will spread east across all parts during the morning. Then bright spells and scattered showers following on for the afternoon. Colder than of late. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry and bright for most of Friday but rain spreading northeast in the evening and overnight. Bright spells and showers over the weekend, showers more frequent on Sunday.

It will likely remain rather changeable during the first part of this period with showers or occasional longer spells of rain affecting many areas. Whether this takes the form of successive weather systems pushing in from the Atlantic or a more slowly evolving weather pattern remains rather unclear. There may also be some drier and brighter interludes and when winds are light, it should feel quite warm, despite temperatures most likely being close to normal for most. Later in the month more blocked weather patterns become more likely, with high pressure in the vicinity of the UK. This increases the probability of more settled weather, especially in the north but there may still be periods of rain or showers, especially in the south.

Blocked patterns with high pressure near to the UK will probably be dominant during this period with a good deal of dry weather across the UK as whole. Some unsettled interludes could develop at times, especially in the south, where rainfall amounts could be above average. Temperatures will probably be near to or slightly above normal, although some cold nights are still possible.
