A showery few days. More settled to end the week.

Today:

A rather wet day as showery rain, sometimes heavy with thunder and hail, moves southwards across the region. Often cloudy as a result of this but a few brighter breaks are possible, mainly later. Feeling cool in the northerly breeze. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Showers fading inland during the evening, then becoming largely dry overnight with clear spells. Staying breezy along the coast with isolated showers continuing. A notably cooler night than of late. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Friday:

Outbreaks of rain spreading southwards to begin. These clearing to leave a drier afternoon with brighter breaks emerging later. Temperatures below the seasonal average and the cool breeze continues. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Becoming more settled with an increasing number of sunny spells. Small chance of a shower on Saturday. Temperatures below average for August but feeling pleasant where the sunshine emerges.

Largely dry and settled early next week as a ridge of high pressure continues to extend across the country. Likely turning more unsettled during the week and through to the turn of the month as low pressure becomes more dominant. This bringing showers or longer spells of rain, perhaps heavy, to most if not all areas at times though still some sunny interludes. Possibly windy at times too. Temperatures likely near to average though varying with some short-lived warm and humid spells possible, especially in the south.

A rather unsettled start to autumn is most likely with all areas probably seeing a mixture of showers or longer spells rain interspersed with drier interludes. Temperatures likely varying around average, some warm or hot spells are possible but unlikely prolonged in early September. By mid-September, there may be an increase in the extent of drier, more settled weather, especially in the south and east, though signals become very weak.
