Increasing cloud then outbreaks of mainly light rain Thursday.

Today:

Any early brightness in the east fading as cloud thickens to bring a few outbreaks of rain, most of this light and occasional but with a few heavier bursts developing in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy with further rain at times. some quite heavy in Fife and Angus. Becoming drier and clearer in the early hours before cloud and patchy rain return by morning. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Friday:

A cloudy morning with occasional rain, then brightening up in the afternoon with some sunny intervals. Becoming windy with some rain in the evening. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A changeable few days with further spells of rain but also some brighter drier periods especially on Monday.

A continuation of the broadly unsettled conditions is likely through this period. One area of low pressure, intiially close to northwestern areas at the start of this period, should soon clear away, but it is likely that further areas of low pressure will develop over the North Atlantic. These will likely progress eastwards towards the UK, but could become quite slow-moving in the vicinity of the UK, as they butt up against higher pressure to the east and north. As a result, the wettest conditions are more likely in western areas, but all parts could see heavy rain at times. Strong winds are also likely at times, again more likely in the west. Temperatures are expected to remain close to or above normal.

This period is likely to be changeable, with further spells of rain or showers and some strong winds at times, especially in the west. Hill snow is also a possibility, mainly in the north. However, there is a greater chance of spells of high pressure during this period, bringing more in the way of dry weather compared to the unsettled conditions we are likely to see through the first couple of weeks of December. This will increase the chances of overnight fog and frost. Overall, near or slightly above average temperatures are most likely, though some colder spells are also possible, especially should any prolonged settled spells develop.
