A cold and dry Boxing Day. Mostly cloudy across Aberdeenshire, some brighter spells in the afternoon. Best of the sunny spells across Moray. Any fog patches, most likely across western Moray, will be slow to clear. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Tonight:

A dry evening and night with light winds. Patchy cloud and some clear spells. Thicker cloud will spread into the north towards the end of the night. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Saturday:

A mostly cloudy day. Mainly dry, but a few spots of light drizzle at times. Brighter conditions spread into the northwest later in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Dry with sunny spells on Sunday, cloudier towards the east coast. Variable cloud amounts with some patchy rain at times on Monday and later on Tuesday.

High pressure is likely to be centred to the west or northwest over the North Atlantic through this period with low pressure to the east. Slowly evolving weather patterns are therefore most probable through this time. However, around the turn of the year, an area of low pressure may move through the North Sea bringing a period of wetter and windier weather, especially to the north. With cold air close to the UK, some wintry hazards are possible in places. Into January more settled conditions with colder and drier than average conditions are most probable. There will however be some periods of rain or showers and windier spells. Temperatures will probably be below average for this period overall and so wintry hazards remain a possibility in places.

Whilst confidence in details is low, high pressure will probably sit close to the UK initially, with periods of relatively settled weather interspersed with more changeable conditions. Temperatures will likely be near or slightly below average during this time, with an enhanced risk of wintry hazards affecting some parts at times. Later in the period, a transition to more widely changeable or unsettled conditions is possible, with a corresponding shift to near or slightly above average temperatures.
