Headline:

Mostly dry morning, some rain arriving in west later.

Today:

Sunny spells and a touch of frost first thing in the morning for some. Turning rather cloudy through the day, patchy rain arriving in west, but mainly dry in east. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

A rather cloudy evening with a few showery bands of rain spreading northeast. Some drier and clearer spells will then develop during the rest of the night. Freshening southerly winds. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Thursday:

Partly cloudy with showery outbreaks of rain, some may be on the heavy side in the west. Drier, brighter around the Moray Firth. Rather breezy, occasionally strong on west coast. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

A good deal of dry weather during this period with variable amounts of cloud. However a few showers or spells of rain can't be ruled out.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. For the most part, temperatures are likely to be close to or perhaps a little below normal, though depending on the position of low pressure relative to the UK, there is the chance of brief warmer mroe humid interludes extending north from the near continent. With this would be the chance of some thunderstorms, these most likely affecting parts of England and Wales.

Low pressure systems are likely to dominate across the UK at the start of this period. This means showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, heavy in places, with the wettest conditions probably towards the northwest. There will, however, probably be some dry and warm interludes, these more likely towards the south, although temperatures are likely to be close to normal overall. Later in the period, more settled and drier conditions may develop, as high pressure potentially establishes itself to the north or west of the UK, with temperatures perhaps rising a little above normal, especially in the west or northwest. Should this happen, eastern parts may be on the cool side with a predominant flow off the North Sea.
