A dry start across the east. Otherwise rather cloudy at times through the day with showers breaking out, these briefly heavy in the north and west. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

Showers will continue across northern and western parts through the evening and night. Becoming mainly dry across the east with clear periods. Light westerly winds. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Saturday:

Variable amounts of cloud with some sunny spells and a few showers, these mainly across the west and north. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mainly dry and bright on Sunday, perhaps a few showers in the north. Becoming unsettled on Monday and Tuesday with rain, although the west may be drier.

A generally rather changeable period looks likely, with many places likely to see some much needed rain or showers at times but also some more sunshine. Initially, some heavy rain looks likely across the northeast, with some showers elsewhere. After a drier, brighter few days, further unsettled conditions may develop for a while, these perhaps more likely towards more southern parts of the UK. Thereafter, further spells of dry, warm, sunny weather and cooler, wetter and breezier weather look likely as we head towards mid-August. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.

Dry and settled conditions look likely to dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall, rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
