Sunny start for most but cloudier conditions with some rain across the Outer Hebrides spread east this morning, although the south remains largely dry. The rain turns more persistent and heavier later this afternoon, with risk of hail and thunder. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy with occasionally heavy and thundery rain, risk of hail and torrential downpours in south, this evening. The rain clears southeast overnight with some clear spells developing. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Friday:

A largely dry and bright morning with some sunny spells but cloud increases from the south towards midday. Outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain spreads erratically north through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Bright start Saturday with some sunny spells but occasionally heavy rain spreads east in afternoon. Sunday and Monday see sunny spells and showers with fresh southwesterly winds.

Fairly changeable conditions at first with periods of rain and showers, and there could be some thundery outbreaks at times. The best of the drier and brighter weather initially will be across the southeast. Then perhaps a drier start to July for many, although the northwest may still see some rain at times, and perhaps accompanied by some strong winds. Temperatures remain widely above average, and there remains a chance of some very warm or hot weather returning, mainly across the south.

High pressure patterns are looking slightly more likely than low pressure patterns during the early part of this period, meaning a greater chance of settled and drier than average conditions. There is still a chance of some changeable or more unsettled conditions developing later in the period, with a risk of some heavy and thundery showers. Temperatures are likely to be above normal, with a greater than normal chance of hot conditions developing at times.
