Today:

A cloudy start, perhaps a light shower or two over Orkney, then brightening up from the north with some sunny spells developing in the afternoon. Fresh northerly winds, feeling cooler. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

It will stay dry through the evening and overnight. Some prolonged spells of evening sunshine leading to clear spells overnight. Fresh northerly evening winds will ease and back northwest. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Sunday:

Dry and bright first thing but increasingly clouding over from the west through the morning with a few outbreaks of light rain through the afternoon and evening, mainly for Orkney. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Monday and Wednesday mainly dry and cloudy but with some sunny intervals, most likely for Shetland. Generally cloudier on Tuesday with some patchy drizzle.

Most places will be dry at first with sunny spells, especially in the south, while northern and northwestern areas see more cloud and occasional patchy rain or drizzle. Through the weekend and into next week, conditions become a little more changeable, with showers and some longer spells of rain increasingly likely, mainly across northern parts of the UK. Further south, many places should stay drier overall with some good sunshine, although a few showers cannot be ruled out. Towards the end of the period, confidence becomes lower, but there are signs that more settled and drier conditions may return, particularly in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, though occasionally fresh in the north, while temperatures are expected to be near or above average, warmest in the south.

Confidence is always low at these lead times, especially during the summer, but signs are that high pressure will return to bring settled and mainly dry weather, especially across the south. While some showers or longer spells of rain may still affect northern parts at times early in the period, these are expected to become less frequent if dry and warm conditions extend northwards. Although most areas may see a good deal of dry weather with sunny spells, occasional showers or even thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Temperatures are likely to remain above average overall, with the potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south. Winds are expected to be generally light or moderate, and stronger winds possible around coastal areas at times.
