Headline:

Dry but low cloud, haar at first. Rain arrives later.

Today:

Early cloud, haar and a spot of drizzle across Shetland in the morning. Cloudy soon clearing for Orkney, then a bright morning with some sunny spells. Then cloud and outbreaks of rain spread northeast through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

It will stay cloudy through the evening and overnight with further outbreaks of rain, turning heavy at times and perhaps quite persistent for Orkney later. Some haar patches around. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Sunday:

Largely cloudy throughout the day with some haar and outbreaks of rain, occasionally heavy and perhaps quite persistent for a time in the morning. Becoming generally drier and brighter later. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Mostly dry on Monday with some bright spells between areas of low cloud. Cloudy on Tuesday and Wednesday with occasional rain. Mainly light winds. Areas of haar at times.

Atlantic low pressure systems will continue to push showers or longer spells of rain east across the UK. The best of the drier conditions are usually more likely towards the south and east, with more frequent rain across the west and northwest. Drier weather may start to become more dominant through the second week of June. Temperatures will be near-normal overall, with the warmest spots most likely across eastern areas. It will also be breezy at times, especially across western parts, and notably so around some coastal areas.

Drier and more settled weather may develop as high pressure becomes more dominant, although some showery interludes are still possible. The forecast turns more mixed towards the end of the month, with rain and showers perhaps having more of an influence. Temperatures likely to trend above average as we head further into June, with very warm spells possible in places.
