Dry and bright first thing but increasingly clouding over from the west through the morning with a few outbreaks of light rain through the afternoon, mainly for Orkney. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy through the evening and overnight for Orkney with some patchy light rain, becoming drier overnight. Mostly dry for Shetland and largely cloudy, though with some breaks at times. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Monday:

It will be mainly dry and cloudy during the day but with some sunny intervals breaking through at times. Some patchy drizzle possible in the evening. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Cloudy and breezy on Tuesday with some patchy drizzle. Wednesday mainly dry and cloudy but with some sunny intervals, most likely for Shetland. Cloudy and windy with light rain Thursday.

For much of the UK, dry at first with sunny spells. Northern and northwestern areas will be cloudier with occasional patchy rain or drizzle. Towards the weekend and perhaps into the start of next week, perhaps a more unsettled period with rain at times, especially across northern parts of the UK. This rain may very well reach southern areas too, but could be light and patchy here. Confidence becomes lower as we head into next week, but there are signs that high pressure will return, which means dry conditions would resume, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, occasionally fresh around northern coasts. Temperatures are expected to be near or above normal, warmest in the south, perhaps becoming very warm again by the start of August.

Higher pressure is generally more likely than lower pressure through August. This means settled and dry weather will likely prevail, especially across the south. There still could be rain at times across northern parts, but should become less frequent where dry and warm conditions extend northwards. Although most areas may see dry weather for the much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days given the right ingredients. Winds are expected to be generally light or moderate, and occasionally fresh around coastal areas. Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south.
