Some early bright spells, but cloud will feed across the region from the northwest on Thursday morning, with the small chance of a shower developing heading into the afternoon. Perhaps a heavier shower developing in the north during the evening. Maximum temperature 26 °C.

Tonight:

Any showers will ease during the course of the evening, leaving a mostly night to come with clear spells. Feeling rather cool, though more comfortable compared to recent nights. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

A dry and bright start to Friday with plenty of sunny spells. Cloud will turn the sunshine hazy through the afternoon, before it disperses again later. Fresher than recent days. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Though remaining a little cooler and fresher, there will be some warm spells of sunshine at times, but an isolated shower possible. Possibly turning wetter on Monday.

A generally rather changeable period looks likely, with many places likely to see some much needed rain or showers at times but also some more sunshine. Initially, some heavy rain looks likely across the northeast, with some showers elsewhere. After a drier, brighter few days, further unsettled conditions may develop for a while, these perhaps more likely towards more southern parts of the UK. Thereafter, further spells of dry, warm, sunny weather and cooler, wetter and breezier weather look likely as we head towards mid-August. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.

Dry and settled conditions will probably dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
