Mainly dry over the Christmas period. A cold wind blowing.

Today:

Christmas Eve will be dry and settled. The morning will get off to a cloudy start, but some sunny spells will develop during the day. Feeling colder than of late, with a brisk easterly breeze blowing, adding to the chill. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Remaining dry during the evening and overnight, with variable, often large amounts of cloud. Still rather windy, though the odd pocket of frost possible in some rural areas. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Thursday:

Christmas Day will start quite cloudy again, but plenty of sunshine will develop during the day. It will remain blustery and it will feel cold out and about. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Staying largely dry on Boxing Day and through the weekend with variable cloud cover. Some clear or sunny spells. Cold throughout with some night frost, and breezy for a while.

UK long range weather forecast

High pressure is likely to dominate across the UK at the start of this period and through to the end of the year. This means that weather conditions will be largely settled and for many places it will remain dry. It may often be rather cloudy, but any rainfall that does develop is expected to be light with overall accumulations small. Winds will mostly be light with temperatures close to or slightly below normal. Into 2026, little change is anticipated through the first week of January, with settled and mainly dry conditions continuing for many parts of the UK. However, there is a small chance that more unsettled, wetter and milder weather could develop at times, particularly in the north.

High pressure will probably lie close to the UK through much of this period and bring a large amount of dry and settled weather, especially in the south, with rainfall most likely in the north.
