Bright spells possible during the morning but turning increasingly cloudy ahead of rain arriving later in the afternoon. Winds picking up in strength with coastal gales developing as the rain arrives. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Tonight:

Wet and windy this evening with heavy bursts of rain possible. Drier interludes emerging overnight as winds ease, though still some showery outbreaks at times. Chilly but largely frost free. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Saturday:

Often cloudy with showers or longer spells of rain on and off throughout the day. Small chance of some brighter breaks. Temperatures up slightly compared to Friday despite limited sunshine. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Early rain on Sunday clearing to brighter spells. Dry for most of Monday but with a notably wet and windy spell possible overnight into Tuesday. Mild but often breezy.

A continuation of the broadly unsettled conditions is likely through this period. One area of low pressure, intiially close to northwestern areas at the start of this period, should soon clear away, but it is likely that further areas of low pressure will develop over the North Atlantic. These will likely progress eastwards towards the UK, but could become quite slow-moving in the vicinity of the UK, as they butt up against higher pressure to the east and north. As a result, the wettest conditions are more likely in western areas, but all parts could see heavy rain at times. Strong winds are also likely at times, again more likely in the west. Temperatures are expected to remain close to or above normal.

This period is likely to be changeable, with further spells of rain or showers and some strong winds at times, especially in the west and northwest. Hill snow is also a possibility, mainly in the north. However, there is a greater chance of spells of high pressure during this period, bringing more in the way of dry weather, compared to the unsettled conditions we are likely to see through the first couple of weeks of December. This will increase the chances of overnight fog and frost. Overall, near or slightly above average temperatures are most likely, though some colder spells are also possible, especially should any prolonged settled spells develop.
