Some early spells of evening sunshine across western parts, before cloud thickens from the east, becoming widespread overnight. A few spots of drizzle may be felt beneath the thickest layers. Light winds, but feeling cool in rural spots. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloud will be slow to lift and break through the morning, with further spots of light rain possible over the Pennines. Warm, sunny spells developing in the west later. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Remaining dry and settled for the rest of the week with a mixture of cloud and sunny periods. Feeling warm in the sunshine, but some chilly nights to come.

High pressure is likely to be the dominant feature at first, bringing widely fine and dry weather whilst an on-shore flow leads to rather cool conditions in parts of the north east. Whilst this is happening a deep area of low pressure is likely to develop in the North Atlantic. This is linked to Hurricane Erin, which is expected to start to bring a change in weather to the UK, though the timing of this is uncertain. From early to mid-week, high pressure may become increasingly eroded from the west as low pressure and frontal systems start to move in from the Atlantic, leading to more changeable conditions with spells of rain through the remainder of the week. Temperatures likely warm or very warm to start before trending towards average.

Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely. There will be the potential for periods of stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear. Temperatures are likely to be near to, or slightly above average overall.
