Tuesday:

A bright start but the cloud will continue to build from the south, becoming widespread and perhaps bringing a few outbreaks of drizzle, mostly over the hills. Turning breezy. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Windy with rain on Wednesday, locally heavy, clearing to sunny spells and isolated showers. Further isolated showers on Thursday. Breezy and rather cloudy on Friday. Temperatures closer to average.

High pressure will likely be in place across much of central and southern UK through the first few days of this period. This means plenty of dry weather to be had, albeit with some chilly nights and overnight and morning fog in places. In the north, a rather more changeable pattern will continue, with occasional rain and often breezier conditions. Towards the end of this period, high pressure may have declined somewhat, allowing lower pressure to become rather more dominant, this probably centred somewhere to the west or south of the UK, though its proximity to the UK is more uncertain. However, there is a chance of some rain developing across parts of the south by mid-month. Overall, temperatures remaining above average overall.

High pressure and more settled conditions early in the period may give way to a more changeable pattern towards mid-October. This will bring a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times, but there will still be periods of drier and more settled weather. Temperatures are likely be above average for the period as a whole.
