Today:

A bright and breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers. These becoming predominantly confined to Pennine regions later, where a few heavier ones are possible. Feeling fresher than of late but still warm in the sunshine. Breezy at times. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight:

Any afternoon showers fading away leaving a dry evening for most with some late sunshine. Dry overnight with clear periods and turning cool in the countryside with patchy fog possible. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Saturday:

A dry day with plenty of sunshine and generally small amounts of patchy cloud. Feeling pleasantly warm for most though a slight breeze in coastal areas. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Breezier on Sunday with rain clearing to sunnier skies later. Turning unsettled and perhaps unseasonably windy on Monday with some disruption possible. Drier but still rather windy on Tuesday.

An unseasonably deep area of low pressure clearing to the east, may bring widely windy and wet weather at first, especially for the north or northeast of the UK. Following this will be a breezy but sunny day for most with a risk of showers in the north. The forecast around this is rather uncertain, however, and it is also possible that it will clear more quickly. Following this, a continuation of the broadly changeable pattern is expected, with spells of rain or showers, some drier, brighter interludes and temperatures mainly near average. As we move towards mid-month, there is an increased chance of high pressure becoming more dominant, leading to drier, warmer and more settled conditions becoming more widespread.

High pressure, and therefore fairly settled conditions overall, appears most likely for the second half of August, though the northwest may see more in the way of occasional rain or showers than other areas. For most, predominantly dry weather is likely to continue, although short periods of showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south, these more probable further into August.
