A bright start, but soon becoming cloudy with outbreaks of rain. Rain becoming mainly confined to the Pennines during the afternoon, with brighter spells developing in the east. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Cloudy but mostly dry Tuesday. Outbreaks of rain likely Wednesday, likely heavy at times. Fine and sunny Thursday. Warm by day, but chilly Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Atlantic weather systems will continue to bring spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions are most likely across northern and western areas, although wet and windy weather may extend more widely at times. Between these unsettled spells, periods of drier and more settled weather are likely, especially in the south and east, where they may last for a few days. Temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal overall, but overnight fog and frost is possible during clearer, cooler nights.

Changeable and occasionally unsettled weather is likely to become more frequent through October, with spells of rain and stronger winds increasingly likely to move in from the Atlantic. Between these periods, some drier and brighter interludes are also expected. As is often the case for October, deeper areas of low pressure may occasionally bring spells of very strong winds. Temperatures are expected to remain slightly above average overall, although brief cooler interludes are possible.
