Today:

Rain across Hebrides and around west coast initially, with some patchy outbreaks elsewhere for the morning. More persistent rain extending to all during afternoon, with some heavier outbreaks late afternoon. Brisk southerly winds touching gale in Hebrides. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Rain at first, most persistent in west from early to mid-evening, clearing towards midnight as clear spells and scattered showers spread from west. Showers continuing overnight, with Inverness best sheltered. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Friday:

A day of showers mixed with brighter spells. Showers quite frequent across the Hebrides and west Highland districts, where thunderstorms may develop later in the day. Brisk southwest winds. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday brings showers, these heavier later. Sunday starts wet and windy, before clearing to blustery showers for afternoon, some turning heavy. Monday brings scattered light showers and brighter spells.

Remaining changeable as Atlantic frontal systems bring spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions will tend to be most frequent across western areas, with longer drier interludes most favoured in the far east and southeast, where it may be very warm at times. Into October, and high pressure to the northeast of the UK may become more influential on the weather, with some longer drier interludes focussed more across the north and northeast of the UK, whilst occasional rain may tend to be more prevalent towards the south and west. Temperatures are expected to be above average for the period as a whole.

Initially, high pressure centred to the north or northeast, with longer drier periods likely across northern UK, whilst low pressure to the southwest brings occasional rain or showers into more southern and western parts. Towards and beyond mid-October, it may turn more widely unsettled with a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times. Temperatures will likely be above average for the period as a whole.
