Today:

Cloud and rain, briefly heavy, will extend southeast for a time this morning. Then dry and brighter weather following on behind. A few light showers in the northwest later. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Mainly this evening, a few showers in the northwest. Then the rest of the night will be largely dry with clear periods. Chilly in some sheltered glens. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Wednesday:

Dry for most of the day before rain spreads northeast in the evening. Some bright spells but clouding over from the south during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Overnight rain on Thursday and Friday soon clearing then mainly dry in the east, a few showers in the west. Bright spells and a few showers on Saturday.

An unsettled period is likely, with many places seeing showers or longer spells of rain at times. Rain is expected to be most frequent across northern and western areas, while the south and east are more likely to see longer, drier spells. There is also the potential for some strong and gusty winds, particularly in the northwest. Temperatures are likely to be near average, although brief warm or very warm spells are possible, especially in the south.

Confidence is very low from mid-September onwards. Initially, a continuation of the changeable pattern is most likely, with the wettest conditions in the northwest and longer drier interludes in the southeast. As we head further into September, the distribution of rainfall becomes increasingly uncertain at this range. Settled or dry spells are still likely between weather systems. Temperatures are likely to be around average overall, although some warm spells are possible, particularly in the south.
