Today:

Mainly dry with some bright or sunny spells this morning, an isolated shower possible across the Western Isles. Dry this afternoon although a fair amount of high cloud around. Breezy in the far northwest at first. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Chance of a shower across the north this evening, otherwise it will be dry overnight. Some lengthy clear periods developing leading to a chilly night with some frost. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Thursday:

All parts will have a dry day with good spells of sunshine, some cloud bubbling up by afternoon. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Mostly dry on Friday but some cloud around, rain reaching the far northwest later. Cloudy on Saturday with patchy rain at first. Rain spreading east for a time on Sunday.

A transition to a more changeable and in places rather unsettled spell of weather looks to take place at the start of this period as Atlantic frontal zones cross the UK. These are likely to be most active in the north and somewhat weaker further south, closer to a ridge of high pressure extending northeast from the subtropical Atlantic. It is possible that we may see a briefly widely colder interlude with northerly winds during the final week of March, which would bring the potential for some snow, especially for northern areas. Widely strong winds could also develop around this time. By the end of March, high pressure may become rather more dominant with plenty of dry weather, but with some overnight fog and frost.

Blocked or slowly evolving weather patterns are favoured during the first week or so of April. High pressure is the preferred flavour of this block; this probably centred to the north or northwest of the UK. This means plenty of dry weather, possibly with some pleasantly warm days, but an ongoing chance of overnight fog and frost. Moving further into April, there is an increasing chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to or a little above average.
