Today:

A dry and mostly cloudy morning but some bright or sunny intervals breaking through. Remaining dry in the afternoon but cloud thickening. Southeasterly winds strengthening with coastal gales. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

Mostly dry and cloudy this evening, with rain reaching the Western Isles near midnight. Heavy rain then spreads east overnight. Strong southeasterly winds bring coastal gales or severe gales. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Wednesday:

Cloudy with heavy rain at first. Rain soon clearing eastwards to leave a largely dry day with long sunny spells developing. Breezy with strong winds over the Western Isles. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Sunny spells with a few showers on Thursday, cloudier with rain spreading east in the evening. Mostly cloudy Friday with rain or showers. Sunny spells and showers Saturday. Breezy.

High pressure will likely be in place over southern UK through the first few days of this period. This means plenty of dry weather to be had here, albeit with some chilly nights and overnight and morning fog in places. In the north, a rather more changeable pattern will continue, with occasional rain and windy conditions at times. Broadly changeable weather patterns look to continue through to mid-month, with ridges of high pressure extending from the southwest, interspersed by Atlantic frontal systems. These could be associated with quite deep and fast-moving depressions, bringing the potential for windy weather more widely, but perhaps more likely in the north and east. Temperatures probably near or slightly above normal overall, but with some day to day oscillations.

Quite an uncertain period of weather, with earlier signals of reliably wetter than normal weather now looking less likely. That being said, the middle of the month could be a quite a changeable period of weather overall, with the wettest weather most likely towards parts of the west and possibly south. It is quite plausible that marked regional variation in rainfall amounts will occur. Temperatures are likely to remain broadly above average overall.
