Fresh to strong west to northwest winds bringing cloudy skies and frequent showers today, which may merge to longer periods of rain during the morning. Best of the limited brightness and lighter winds expected towards Inverness. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Tonight:

Rather cloudy evening with further showers, these focused across the north. Some overnight clear spells developing, chiefly towards the southern end of Great Glen where showers will largely die out. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Sunday:

Most enjoying a dry day with good sunny spells and light winds, with the Great Glen best favoured. However, some early light showers possible, chiefly in the north. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Most dry during Monday, with sunshine turning hazy for the afternoon. However, occasional areas of rain crossing the area from the southwest from late Monday and through Tuesday and Wednesday.

A changeable period is likely through the middle and latter part of next week with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain focused across the north and especially west, some of which could spread to parts of the south and southeast at times. Some strong winds may accompany this, mainly around coasts in the north and west. Through next weekend and into the following week, high pressure will probably become more dominant with conditions turning more widely dry and settled. Temperatures are likely to be above normal for most parts, and across the southeast in particular it could be very warm or hot at times, especially next weekend.

High pressure is expected to lie close to the UK at the start of this period, bringing largely settled and dry conditions. Temperatures will likely be above normal, with the potential for hot conditions to develop, especially in the south. Into July, the influence of high pressure may weaken or shift more to the north or west of the UK, bringing an increasing chance of more unsettled weather and thunderstorms, especially in the south. Temperatures will probably ease back closer to normal too, although some warm and humid spells are still possible at times.
