A changeable period is expected, with Atlantic weather systems bringing spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions are most likely across northern and western areas, although stronger winds may at times extend more widely. Between these unsettled spells, periods of drier and more settled weather are likely, especially in the south and east, where they may last for a few days. Accompanying these may be some overnight fog and frost. Temperatures are expected to be slightly above average overall.

Changeable and occasionally unsettled weather is likely to become more frequent through October, with spells of rain and stronger winds increasingly likely to move in from the Atlantic. Temperatures are expected to remain slightly above average overall, although brief cooler interludes are possible.
