Heavy showers persisting across Cornwall this evening before easing. Elsewhere largely dry with the clearest skies in the east, cloudier elsewhere. Further showers arriving into the far west by dawn. Chilly in the east. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Thursday:

A mostly dry albeit cloudy day with a few showers around, these mainly in the north. Best of the sunshine confined to the south coast. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Heavy, slow moving showers likely on Friday with longer spells of rain arriving from the south on Saturday into Sunday before clearing. Turning warmer and more humid on Saturday.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. For the most part, temperatures are likely to be close to or perhaps a little below normal, though depending on the position of low pressure relative to the UK, there is the chance of brief warmer mroe humid interludes extending north from the near continent. With this would be the chance of some thunderstorms, these most likely affecting parts of England and Wales.

Low pressure systems are likely to still be close by to the UK at the start of this period. This means showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, these heavy in places, with the wettest conditions probably towards the northwest by this stage. There will, however, probably be some dry and warm interludes, these more likely towards the south, although temperatures are likely to be close to normal overall. Later in the period, more settled and drier conditions may develop, as high pressure establishes itself over or to the west of the UK, with temperatures perhaps rising a little above normal, especially in the west. Should this happen, eastern parts may be on the cool side with a predominant flow off the North Sea.
