Early cloud and rain clears to the southeast to leave a mostly dry day with plenty of sunny spells then following. The odd shower remains possible towards the northwest. Rather breezy for all. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Early evening showers easing to leave a mostly dry night with clear spells. Winds also easing a little by morning. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Friday:

Dry at first, but increasingly cloudy as rain moves in from the west during by the afternoon. Possibly turning heavy for a time, with winds increasing into the afternoon also. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mostly cloudy on Saturday and Sunday with patchy rain and stronger winds. Brighter to the east of high ground. Drier, brighter and a little warmer on Monday with lighter winds.

The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to northern and northwestern areas. As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop, whilst the bulk of the rain and possible strong winds are more likely to affect the northwest of the UK. Many areas may remain mostly settled towards the end of September, but there is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic bringing more widely unsettled conditions by the end of the month.

Changeable weather may become more frequent as we move into October, with periods of rain and stronger winds becoming more likely to spread from the west, although with drier and brighter spells also. As is not untypical as we move towards mid-October, deeper low pressure systems could bring occasional periods of very strong winds. Temperatures are likely to remain above normal overall, though brief cooler interludes are also possible.
