Cloudy at first with occasionally heavy rain clearing east. Then turning brighter with a few scattered showers. Strong to near gale force winds. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Bright or sunny spells on Sunday with a few scattered showers. Fairly unsettled and changeable later Monday into Tuesday with the risk of rain or showers.

A changeable period is likely to start, with many areas seeing a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but elsewhere outbreaks of showers or thunderstorms may interrupt the dry conditions at times elsewhere. Confidence becomes lower into the start of August, but there are hints that more settled conditions could return for a time, which would mean dry conditions resuming, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, but occasionally fresh or strong around some coasts, mainly in the north and west. Temperatures will be broadly above normal and will probably be warm or even hot at times in the south.

Settled and dry weather will probably dominate through much of August, especially across the south. Some spells of rain are still likely at times, especially across northern and western areas. Although many areas may see mainly dry weather for the much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days. Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south.
